Aiden McGeady has shared nostalgic memories of his impactful loan spell with Preston North End, recalling a famous last-gasp equaliser against rivals Blackburn Rovers. The former Republic of Ireland winger, who retired from playing in 2024, scored eight goals and provided nine assists in 35 appearances during the 2016/17 season while on loan from Everton.
He marked his debut with two goals in a 2-1 home defeat to Barnsley, but it was his 93rd-minute strike in a 2-2 draw at Ewood Park in March 2017 that remains a highlight. McGeady described it as a "really good team move" finished after a cut-back from captain Tom Clarke. "I loved it," McGeady said. "It was one of those ones where I felt like the fans were really patient."
He praised the Deepdale support for backing the team consistently, noting they "wouldn't moan if you gave the ball away once or twice." McGeady characterised Preston as "a real family club," a sentiment that resonates as the current team faces a tough Championship battle. Ryan Lowe's side are 23rd in the table with just four points from eight games, their recent form reading one win, one draw and three defeats.
The club's next chance to climb the standings comes with a home match against Millwall on Saturday, 10 October. Fans can check the full schedule on the club's fixtures page and see how the table looks in our standings. McGeady's reflections offer a welcome reminder of past highs as Preston prepare for a key period at Deepdale.
