Preston's Milutin Osmajic has been handed a nine-match ban for allegedly making racist comments to Burnley's Hannibal Mejbri. The incident occurred during last season's Championship derby between the two Lancashire sides at Deepdale in February, which ended 0-0. The Football Association's independent regulatory commission found the allegations to be proven after Osmajic was charged with an 'aggravated' breach of their rules over conduct. Preston North End are extremely disappointed at the decision, noting that the outcome was determined on the 'Balance of Probabilities' rather than one that is 'Beyond Reasonable Doubt'. Osmajic has denied the charges and will be fined £21,000 and ordered to attend an education course. The 26-year-old has scored four goals in 11 league appearances for Preston this season. The FA determined that this decision offers no moral judgement, was not premeditated nor any comment about his general character. Milutin Osmajic signed with Preston from Cádiz in September 2023. The club will continue to be fully supportive of their player. The regulatory commission's written reasons for its decisions will be published in due course. Osmajic's ban will start immediately. Preston North End's statement read that they note the FA's decision and will continue to support their player. The incident has sparked controversy in the football community. Osmajic's future with the club remains uncertain.
