Preston North End is looking to re-sign former captain Alan Browne.

What happened to Alan Browne?

Alan Browne left Preston in 2024 and helped Sunderland achieve promotion to the Premier League.

He was then loaned out to Middlesbrough, starting in the play-off final against Hull City at Wembley Stadium. With a year left on his contract, he is expected to depart Wearside on a permanent basis.

Why re-sign Alan Browne?

Darren Watson, Preston Fan Pundit, believes Browne would be a good signing for the Lancastrians once again. He says: “Personally, for me, I would look to try and bring back Alan Browne. He knows what the responsibility is to be the Preston North End captain.”

What comes next for Preston?

Preston do have plenty of options in the middle of the park, with current captain Ben Whiteman alongside Ali McCann, Jordan Thompson, Theo Carroll, Andrew Moran. But re-signing Alan Browne would be a coup for the club, given his experience and promotion record. As Preston looks to launch a sustained promotion challenge next season, bringing back a former fan favourite could be the key to success.
