Millwall striker Lyndon Dykes has detailed why previous attempts to sign him collapsed, as he prepares to face a struggling Preston side at Deepdale this weekend. Preston, currently 23rd in the Championship with just four points from eight games, host 11th-placed Millwall on Saturday looking to end a run of one win in their last five matches.

Dykes, who joined the Lions from Queens Park Rangers this summer, explained that moves had been close in earlier transfer windows. "There were a couple of times it nearly happened," the Scotland international said. He added that the persistent interest from Millwall made his eventual decision to move straightforward when the opportunity arose again.

The 30-year-old forward has made a strong start at The Den, scoring three goals in his first seven appearances. He believes his physical style is a natural fit for the club's identity. Dykes stated.

His arrival followed a period of debate among supporters about the transfer, but his early contributions have helped quieten those discussions. Millwall manager, Kevin Nancekivell, has consistently backed his new signing, praising his work rate and aerial ability.

Focus on Scotland recall

With Scotland preparing for key Nations League fixtures next month, Dykes admitted he is hoping to force his way back into the international setup. He has not featured for his country since the last campaign.

His immediate focus, however, is on Saturday's trip to face Preston. The Lilywhites are in dire need of a result, having conceded 15 goals already this season. Their last outing was a 2-2 draw with QPR, where a late Paul Smyth equaliser denied them victory after a Johnny Kenny brace.

Preston's recent form shows just one win, one draw and three losses from their last five games. Manager Ryan Lowe will be looking to his top scorer, C. Lang, who has three goals this term, to provide a threat against Millwall's defence.

The match at Deepdale represents a critical opportunity for Preston to climb off the bottom of the table. A look at the current standings shows they are already 13 points adrift of leaders Swansea City. The game kicks off at 3pm on Saturday, 10 October.
